St. Ansgar is an active community located approximately 30 miles northeast of Mason City in Mitchell county. The city got its name after the patron saint of Scandinavia who Christianized much of Denmark, Sweden and northern Germany. This is because a lot of Norwegian immigrants had moved into the area. The population of the city today is a little over 1,000 residents.
Another name for St. Ansgar is “The Garden Spot of Iowa”. This is because there are many beautiful gardens that are located throughout the city, making the city especially beautiful in the summertime. You can always check out a book from the local library to read in the park.
The city is home to many shops, banks, restaurants, bed and breakfasts and orchards. Some of the shops range from a convenience store, general store, pizza place and boutiques. This businesses allow residents to stay close to home for most of their needs.
In addition, St. Ansgar also offers lots of entertainment opportunities. You can pick from golfing, fishing or even kayaking along the Cedar River. Of course the city has a few parks where you can take the kids or just relax.
St. Ansgar has its own school district for the city and other cities surrounding it. The preschool through 12th grade program has all of its buildings located in St. Ansgar.
