The city of Northwood was founded in 1858 and is located along Highway 65. The city is located between Mason City and Albert Lea, MN. It is roughly 20 miles north of Mason City and a little over 15 miles south of Albert Lea. Northwood has approximately 2000 residents with roughly 900 households.
This county seat has quite a few businesses and entertainment options. You don’t have to leave town to get your groceries as you can pick them up at the local market or convenience stores/gas stations. You also have the conveniences of local banks and auto repair shops so you can stay close to home.
There are a few restaurants you can choose from as well as a local brewery. There also are some dining options at the casino, which is located just off of I-35 west of town.
The casino also offers entertainment options. Besides the typical gambling that casinos offer, regularly different musical acts come for concerts. The casino also supports cities and schools in Worth county. Northwood also has its own movie theater so you can catch some of the latest flicks.
Northwood’s park is quite scenic as the Shell Rock river flows through the park. There is nice playground equipment for the kids to play on and nice walking paths with a bridge over the river. If you enjoy a little disc golf, there is a disc golf course you can play on. Or you can grab a book at the local library and sit along the river and catch up on the latest novel.
During the summer there are ball diamonds and an aquatic center that residents can use. The aquatic center is a newer structure that has water opportunities for all ages.
