Rockford is located in North Iowa about halfway between Mason City and Charles City. This cozy community is situated right between the Shell Rock River and Winnebago River. Because of the location on the water, this is why the first town settler built a cabin back in 1851.
In addition to some beautiful parks and campgrounds, Rockford residents can visit the local library or join in activities at the community center. One of the premiere attractions is just west of Rockford and that is the Fossil and Prairie park. There are millions of fossils here and the best thing is, unlike other fossil parks, here you can actually take home the fossils you find! There are some unique fossils found here that are only located at a handful of other spots around the world, making this an attraction that people come from hundreds of miles around to see.
The city of Rockford has many businesses for a city of under 1,000 people. These include a medical clinic, restaurant, auto repair, full service camping, and a bakery.
